Location: San Diego, CA
Schedule: Hybrid (1 day in-office per week)
Duration: Temporary Assignment (6-12 weeks)
Pay Rate: $24/hr

Position Summary

The Payroll Practitioner I is responsible for preparing payroll, maintaining timekeeping records, processing payroll-related transactions, and supporting multi-state payroll operations. This role requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Audit and verify timekeeping records for accuracy and compliance
  • Process payroll adjustments including tax changes and deductions
  • Process garnishments and tax levies
  • Prepare and process payroll and manual check requests
  • Process employee terminations and related payroll activities
  • Maintain employee payroll and timekeeping records
  • Allocate payroll expenses to the general ledger
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries
  • Maintain accuracy across high-volume payroll processing
  • Perform additional payroll-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2-4 years of multi-state payroll experience
  • Experience processing payroll deductions, garnishments, and terminations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong problem-solving and time management abilities
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using HRIS or timekeeping systems (such as UltiPro)
  • Microsoft Office proficiency, including Excel
  • Familiarity with general ledger allocations
  • Experience supporting multi-location payroll operations
